Art Detroit Now — Connecting Detroit’s
Art Community
Art Detroit Now (ADN) is a trusted visual arts guide and cultural connector for the Detroit region. For more than 15 years, the organization has expanded access to contemporary art through gallery guides, public programs, publications, and free resources that connect people with exhibitions, artist talks, events, and opportunities across the city’s creative community.

UX/UI Designer, UX Researcher & Brand Designer
I worked with Art Detroit Now to improve its digital experience, focusing on website usability, accessibility, and content organization. I also helped refine the organization's visual identity, develop a brand guide, and conduct a user research survey to evaluate audience interest in a tiered subscription model.

The Goal
As Art Detroit Now’s audience and programming grew, the goal was to create a more intuitive, accessible digital experience and a cohesive visual identity that could support the organization’s growth. The project also explored sustainable ways to increase community support while keeping ADN’s arts resources accessible.
User Survey
I helped develop and implement a survey for Art Detroit Now’s existing subscribers to better understand how they use the platform, what programming they value, and whether they would support a tiered membership model.
Key Finding
Subscribers preferred ADN’s existing free model and were more interested in supporting the organization through one-time, monthly, or yearly donations rather than paid membership tiers.
User Journey Mapping
I mapped three user journeys to identify how visitors and subscribers interact with ADN across its website, social media, and newsletters. These flows helped establish opportunities to streamline registration, collect audience preferences, and organize subscribers for more targeted communication.
Sign-Up & Onboarding
I helped redesign the signup experience to collect useful subscriber information during onboarding.
New subscribers answer a short set of questions about their role, interests, location, and communication preferences, allowing ADN to organize its audience into relevant subgroups for future marketing, programming, and grant reporting.

Branding
I helped refine Art Detroit Now’s visual identity and develop a more cohesive brand system that could be applied across its website, newsletters, events, and promotional materials.
Primary and Secondary Logos
The refreshed ADN logo maintains the boldness of the original identity while introducing a softer, more versatile typographic system. The varied letterforms reflect the diversity of ADN’s creative community, while the boxed shape references editorial layouts and the organization’s role in sharing local art news and events. A secondary ADN emblem extends the identity into a flexible mark for social media, stickers, and promotional use.
Newsletter Design
I created consistent newsletter designs in Constant Contact, applying ADN’s updated visual identity across weekly communications to strengthen brand recognition and improve readability.
Sponsor Landing Page Design
I designed and built a Wix sponsorship page that highlights ADN’s impact, sponsorship benefits, and donation options through clear storytelling and community-focused visuals.
ADN Brand Guide
I created a comprehensive brand guide to establish consistency across ADN’s visual identity, including photography, typography, color, logos, and brand applications. The guide gives the team a clear system for maintaining a cohesive look across digital and print materials.
